Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)

As part of the celebration of 7th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) a workshop for “Bringing an equitable ecosystem for accessibility” was jointly organized by Rotary Bangalore Abilities and the  E-Health Research Center at IIIT-Bangalore on 17th May 2018, with support from Mr. Srinivasu Chakravarthula and Mr. Subramani L.  The workshop aimed to spread awareness and create an ecosystem to take the message of accessibility to every business and technology developer with an objective to bring together techies, companies, NGOs, start-ups and government agencies to gain a better understanding of accessibility and how technology-based services can be made accessible.
 
Workshop was kicked off with an inaugural overview from Prof Sadagopan, Director of IIIT-B and context setting by Mr. Srini from Informatica. Mr. Divya Raj of E-Health Research Center of IIIT-B was the master of ceremony.
 
In the first part of this workshop, there were talks from some of the pioneers in the field of accessibility -- Mr. Dipendra Manocha of Saksham Trust and Victor Tsaran of Google.
 
Second session had speakers with many years of experience in the areas of accessibility and inclusion, especially in work environments and technology – Mr. Ritesh Rajani from IBM, Mr. Ankit Jindal from Wipro and Mr. Rajaskeharan from V-shesh.
 
Final session has representatives from companies who are using technology to develop products and solutions that improve accessibility in various settings – Mr. Prashant and Mr. Vikraman from Olacabs,  Mr. Shaswat from Eye-D and Ms. Vindhya and Ms. Supriya from Vision Empower.
 
Closing remarks were from Ms. Abha Saxena of Rotary Club (founder of Social Equity Advisory Services and Market Access) and Prof. T.K.Srikanth (convenor of E-Health Research Center of IIIT-B) who coordinated the organization of this event.
